Résumé
The summer days grow longer but life gets shorter the heart starts growing cold if you remain a loner you gotta take a chance get up and dance you know the song. Open Your Borders by Jack Lukeman. Whilst attending a Jack Lukeman gig in London, Jane and Elle Moore find themselves stuck in a lift with two strangers, Tom Kavanagh and Leslie Sheehan. After less than an hour together these four people's lives become irrevocably intertwined. Elle is 26 years old. She's a successful artist living in a cottage in her sister Jane's back garden. Elle is impulsive; she's sensitive and sometimes selfish. She's also kind and engaging, a lovable troublemaker who can't help but to act according to her feelings. Her aged mother idolises her and excuses her behaviour as a side effect of genius. Her art benefits from her erratic nature but her mental health is suffering and those closest to her don't seem to be aware that Elle is on the edge. Jane Moore is 35 years old. She's a single mother, an art dealer and caretaker of her mean spirited mother and her younger sister. Jane's life changed when she got pregnant aged 17. She could have done anything she had wanted to be but pregnancy limited those choices. She's made the best out of her life but a part of her grieves the person she could have been and resents the role of caretaker that's been thrust upon her. She feels trapped and suffocated. Jane hasn't put herself first once in her adult life and it's about time she did. Leslie Sheehan has just turned 40. She lives with her cat in an apartment and for nearly twenty years Leslie has lived the life of a shut-in. Leslie seems cold but she s caring. She s sometimes awkward and she's incredibly inquisitive not just about people but the world around her. She's well read and google is her God. Every member of Leslie's family has died of cancer and she had the gene. Since her early twenties, every six months Leslie is tested for cancer and every six months her tests are clear. After twenty years of waiting to die Leslie has finally decided to start living. Tom Kavanagh is 36 years. A year ago he had a profitable business as a contractor and a wife he loved and who he thought loved him. They were trying for a baby and life was good. Tom's wife Trudy disappeared without a trace eleven months ago and a traumatised Tom was the prime suspect in the ensuing police investigation. When the police located Trudy she would not allow them to reveal her location. Tom still has no idea why his wife walked out on her life. Her family and friends are none the wiser either and he's angry and grief stricken and until he gets some answers he cannot get on with his life. Four broken people come together accidently and in one another they find strength, friendship and hope that was all but lost.
